Update A records to improve site load speed and reduce redirects

We’ve created new A records to make sites load faster and reduce unnecessary redirects on your domain. Read more about how and why to make the switch.

Thanks to recent feedback from customers, we’ve made some updates to our hosting infrastructure that streamline how redirects occur when browsers load Webflow websites at the default domain.

As a result, we’re asking all customers with websites hosted on custom domains to update their A records in their domain name service (DNS) provider by April 30th, 2021.

The good news? Using these new A records will reduce the number of steps that take place when your site loads, which should result in even faster site loading times.

What‘s changed?

In short, the issue we uncovered has to do with how visitors to your site are redirected when they type in a URL on your domain and get redirected to another place.

For example, if your site lives on “https://www.website.com” and someone types “https://website.com” or a URL that you’ve set to 301 redirect back to your homepage in their browser, Webflow will automatically direct them to the correct location: “https://www.website.com.”

Before this update, we noticed an extra redirect taking place that caused slight performance issues for some customers. To resolve this issue, we’ve set up new A records that you can switch to.

How do I update my A records?

Go to your project(s) using custom domains, copy the updated A records shown in your project’s settings, and update your DNS settings in your domain registrar's or DNS host's dashboard.

For reference, these new A records are:

  • 75.2.70.75
  • 99.83.190.102

When do I need to make this update?

We’re asking customers to update their A records for all websites hosted on a custom domain by April 30th, 2021. Between now and then, we’ll be periodically reminding site owners who haven’t made these updates to do so.

What happens if I don’t make this update?

If you don’t update your sites’ A records by July 1st, your site won’t go down, but you’ll stop receiving updates, improvements, and optimizations that we make to our overall hosting infrastructure. This could result in degraded performance over time.
